Cllr Paul Martin saves a family with a disabled member £300 in dropped kerb fiasco
Cllr Paul Martin has secured a dropped kerb for a Family with a disabled member.
Just a few days after Paul Martin had been elected as a councillor in Failsworth East he was contacted by a Failsworth family with a disabled member. The family needed a dropped kerb so that a disabled family member could gain easy access to the family home. Unity Partnership wanted to charge this family £300 to have this work done, even though road and pavement improvements are currently taking place on the road.
Cllr Paul Martin, on behalf of the family, contacted Unity Partnership and told them that he though they were wrong to attempt to charge this family and that common sense should prevail. Paul said "Initially Unity Partnership told the family that £300 for the work to be done was 'a bargain'. I would urge all residents to ask questions if faced with a similar situation and not just pay up. In the end they didn’t have to pay a penny".

Positive politics for
Failsworth
Newly elected Failsworth West councillor Ian Barker has promised positive politics for the residents of Failsworth West.
Ian, along with Paul Martin (Failsworth East councillor) will meet with fellow Conservative councillors and Oldham Tory leader Cllr Phil Rogers to outline their future plans. Ian is also hoping that party politics can be put to one side in Failsworth, Ian said "I will be hoping to meet with my fellow Failsworth West colleagues soon to give them assurances that I am here to work with anyone who wants to strive to improve the lives of our residents, regardless of the party they represent".
Ian Barker praised Failsworth West departing councilor John Johnson, Ian said “"John has been a Failsworth councillor for over 20 years and he should be proud of such an achievement. John is a credit to the Failsworth Labour party”. Everyone at Failsworth Conservatives would like to wish John Johnson and his family all the best for the future."

Voters want change
and elect two Failsworth
Conservative councillors!
Failsworth residents voted for change yesterday as the Conservatives triumphed in both Failsworth wards!
Ian Barker, fighting Failsworth West, defeated Deputy Council Leader John Johnson by 92 votes. Whilst in Failsworth East, Paul Martin won the seat by 8 votes off Barbara Dawson. Paul Martin and Ian Barker are humbled by the support shown by the residents of Failsworth, Ian says "The phone calls, texts and emails of support we have received have been fantastic! Emails are flying in all the time, it's just unbelievable."
As residents you have shown you are fed up with complacency, arrogance and invisibility in your Council, and have voted to put this right. This is what is priceless about our double win, that it has been a joint effort between us and all the residents who put boards up, leafleted, took time to speak to us, contacted us for action and, finally, went out and voted for us on Thursday May 1st. It has shown that residents can still make a difference and achieve change for themselves and their families.
Now hopefully locally and nationally your elected representatives will realise they need to invest more time listening to the residents and realise that support must be earned, it is not something to be expected simply because of the colour of your rosette!
